Next Generation Phosphate Ester from Solvay

Phosphate esters are well-known multi-functional additives for metalworking fluids. However, most phosphate esters currently available, while providing anti-wear and extreme pressure protection along with emulsification and stain inhibition, can contribute to foam and soap generation. In addition, many current phosphate esters are classified as very toxic to aquatic life. Traditional phosphate esters no longer offer the right balance between performance, regulation, and economics.

The Solution

The Lubrhophos LF 800 from Solvay is a readily biodegradable phosphate ester based on a common and widely available short-chain alcohol. The LF 800 provides the formulator a balance of good emulsification for water-based formulations, excellent defoaming in soft water, and low soap formation in hard water. In addition, the Lubrhophos LF 800 offers excellent aluminum stain inhibition as well as AW/EP performance.

The Ideal Addition

Lubrhophos LF 800 is not classified as eco-toxic and is based on a more widely available raw material source. These key points, along with the multi-functionality of the product, make it an ideal addition to the formulator’s toolbox.

  • Good emulsification
  • Outstanding defoaming properties
  • Low foaming in soft water
  • Aluminum stain inhibition
  • Commonly and widely available raw material source
