If you are making a new formula and are considering using Di-isodecyl Adipate (DIDA), or your current formulation utilizes DIDA, we would like to show you why you should make the switch to an exclusive C10 diester from BASF. Synative ES DPHA, by BASF, is an improvement over DIDA respecting critical features.

Synative ES DPHA is a diester of propylheptyl alcohol and adipic acid, [Di-(2-propylheptyl) Adipate] that imparts superior performance while maintaining the positive physical properties of DIDA, such as +100 Viscosity Index, very low pour point and high flash point.

Similar Physical Properties

Synative ES DPHA DIDA
Viscosity @ 40° C, ASTM D 445 11.6 cSt 14.2 cSt
Viscosity @ 100° C, ASTM D 445 3.0 cSt 3.7 cSt
Viscosity Index, ASTM D 2270 123 144
Pour Point, ASTM D 97 – 75° C – 57° C
Flash Point, ASTM D 92 223° C 224° C

Since these are both 10 carbon alcohol diesters of the same acid, they have the same molecular weight and similar physical properties. Therefore, they have some of the same benefits when used in formulation as a co-solvent ester. In addition to the physical properties listed above, Synative ES DPHA and DIDA have comparable compatibility with mineral oil & PAO’s and seal elastomers. However, despite their similarities, due to its more highly branched alcohol, Synative ES DPHA has superior performance advantages respecting, thermal oxidative stability, friction reduction, hydrolytic stability, and low temperature fluidity.

Synative ES DPHA provides an alternative to DIDA, and other similar diesters, that can improve key product performance aspects while preserving the desirable qualities with little, or no change to a formulation’s physical characteristics. Lastly, Synative ES DPHA meets the requirements to be classified as readily biodegradable according the OECD 301B test method.
